À partir de 1957, et durant toute la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, H.M. a été largement étudié par les neuropsychologues de l'Institut neurologique de Montréal, notamment Brenda Milner et Suzanne Corkin . Son cas a contribué à une meilleure compréhension des différentes formes de la mémoire et notamment de la mémoire déclarative.
