Food News of the Week; Survey Shows Christmas Dinner Staples Will Be Reasonably Priced This Year Cranberries Less Plentiful Fruit Cheaper This Year Fish Supplies Heavier

A survey of meat, fruit and vegetable markets by experts indicates that good Christmas dinners at reasonable prices may be obtained for Sunday. Poultry prices,-except for turkey, are well below a year ago. There are plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables at moderate prices, from Texas, Florida, Cuba and some from California. Quality is good.

Wheat reflected a firm undertone from the start of trading today. Failure of expected rain or snow to fall in the Southwest, buying of futures, which brokers believed represented the removal of hedges against sales to the Federal Surplus Commodities Corporation and strength in Liverpool induced professional operators on the Board of Trade here to take a less bearish view of the situation.

Ernst Lubitsch, who announced some months ago that he would form a profit-sharing unit with Myron Selznick to film "The Shop Around the Corner," plans for which were later abandoned, today concluded an agreement with Metro Goldwyn-Mayer whereby he will produce and direct the picture for them. Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart will be in the leads.
