LEAD: Nortek Inc. has purchased a 7.8 percent stake in the Rexham Corporation and said it might seek control of the Charlotte, N.C., packaging products concern. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nortek said it had bought the Rexham shares ''with a view to acquiring a significant equity interest'' in the company, but added that any possible acquisition of the company was ''subject to future developments.

LEAD: The General Motors Corporation said its Fisher Guide division plans a gradual phase-out of operations at the Detroit Fort Street plant to be completed by the end of the 1989 model year. It said efforts would be made to cushion the impact of the closing on the plant's 2,057 employees. The 1.5-million-square-foot plant builds a variety of car parts, such as foam arm rests, door trim panels and instrument panels.

LEAD: The Holiday Corporation said it had received commitments from three banks for $1.23 billion in financing for its previously announced recapitaliztion plan. The company also said it had set Feb. 27 as the date for the special meeting at which stockholders will vote on the plan. Under the plan, Holiday shareholders will receive a $65-a-share dividend and retain ownership of about 90 percent of the company's stock to be outstanding.
