LOCKHEED WINS PENTAGON AIRCRAFT CONTRACT

The Lockheed Martin Corporation said yesterday that it won a contract to sell 10 additional transport aircraft to the Department of Defense. No purchase price for the aircraft was given. On Nov. 26, the department agreed to pay $650 million for 14 of Lockheed's C-130J aircraft. Four of the aircraft from the order announced yesterday will go to the Maryland Air National Guard and two will be used to track storms from Mississippi. Two more will be sent to Pennsylvania, and two will be used by the Marine Corps.

CLAYTON, DUBILIER SELLING STAKE IN UNIT

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc. plans to sell a minority stake in its electrical equipment distribution business for about $300 million, four years after buying it from the CBS Corporation for $340 million. The CDW Holding Corporation, parent company of the business formerly called Westinghouse Electric Supply, or Wesco, filed Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering in which Clayton, Dubilier will be the only seller of shares. Clayton, Dubilier, a New York-based buyout firm, did not disclose exactly how much of CDW it will offer, although the filing said it ''will retain the power to control the company's corporate policies.'' The company is now the No. 2 electrical equipment distributor in the United States with a 4 percent market share, behind Graybar Electric Company's market share of just under 5 percent.

SOFTBANK OF JAPAN TO MERGE 2 U.S. AFFILIATES

The Softbank Corporation, a Japanese publisher and computer wholesaler, said yesterday that it will merge two United States affiliates on Wednesday to streamline part of its United States operations. Softbank said Softbank Holdings Inc., a Massachusetts-based holding company, will absorb California-based Softbank America Inc., an American agent for the parent company. Softbank Holdings had a current, or pretax, profit of 471 million yen ($3.6 million) in the year ended December 1996.

IVAX AND NAPRO CANCER DRUG APPROVAL UNCERTAIN

The Ivax Corporation and Napro Biotherapeutics Inc. said yesterday that they might not win final United States regulatory approval of their Paxene cancer drug until 2004 because of exclusive marketing rights granted to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company for its version of the same drug. After the market closed, Ivax, which is based in Miami, and Napro said the Food and Drug Administration granted a tentative approval for their version of Bristol-Myers' Taxol drug to treat the AIDS-related skin cancer Kaposi's sarcoma. Because Bristol-Myers won a period of marketing exclusivity for Taxol, though, final approval may not be granted until Aug. 4, 2004, the companies said.

Hachette-Filipacchi Medias, the French publishing company controlled by the holding company Lagardere S.C.A. and Filipacchi Medias S.A., has bought a 5 percent stake in Nice Matin, the leading newspaper in the south of France. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nice Matin is controlled by two families and its employees. Its shares are not publicly traded.

Finance Minister Says Japan's Crisis Is Over

Finance Minister Hiroshi Mitsuzuka declared Japan's financial crisis over yesterday, and investors responded by pushing the key stock index to its second-lowest close of the year. The benchmark Nikkei average of 225 issues fell 497.50 points, or 3.25 percent, to 14,802.60, led by banks and exporters. That is just three points more than its lowest close for the year, which was set on Monday.

Lomas Trustee Sues Auditors

Ernst & Young L.L.P. and two of its audit partners are being sued by a bankruptcy trustee for the Lomas Financial Corporation who contends they mismanaged the defunct mortgage company's audit and did not properly disclose the company's financial troubles. Martin R. Pollner, the trustee representing the company's creditors and shareholders, is seeking at least $300 million in a state court in Dallas. The suit contends that the accounting firm and the two partners collaborated with management to conceal risky financial practices that contributed to the company's failure. The suit, filed in October, was reported today in The Wall Street Journal. Ernst & Young said in a statement that it ''performed its duties professionally.'' ''The losses Lomas cites in its complaint were caused by its own decisions, and all of its allegations against us are totally without merit.''

Nissan Plan to Speed Auto Development

The Nissan Motor Company, Japan's second-largest auto maker, will spend as much as 40 billion yen ($307.6 million) to upgrade its computer-aided design system to reduce vehicle development time and cut costs. An upgraded system will allow Nissan to shorten its vehicle development time to about a year from 19 months now, said a company spokeswoman, who insisted on anonymity. The system will be completed by 2002, she added.
